Looking at critical first steps and assessments, the instructor takes you through what it takes to devise and execute a meaningful trademark strategy worldwide. Topics to be covered include:
- Defining Required TM Protection in the USA – Identifying the trademark(s), confirming the scope of trademark use in the USA and confirming registration in the USA.
- Confirming Scope of TM Use Outside the USA – Discovering where you need trademarks, e.g. where your brand may be most vulnerable to infringement.
- Assessing Your Resources – Balancing available resources to prioritize the trademark filings. International trademarks represent a significant investment.
- Scoping out Trademark Enforcement – Developing and implementing a trademark enforcement program to protect the mark or marks, in the USA and abroad.
About the Instructor
Ms. Abbas helps clients develop and implement their domestic and international trademark registration and policing strategies. She has managed domestic and international portfolios consisting of as many as 5,000 trademarks for clients across diverse industries, including apparel and other consumer goods, lawn and garden, health and fitness, food and beverage, vitamins and dietary supplements, payroll and other financial services, and computer software and hardware. In the area of trademark enforcement, one of her earliest cases involved a raid with the Federal Marshall of a counterfeit establishment in Los Angeles; she also has managed trademark infringement actions before the United States federal courts and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. No stranger to the dangers of brand pirating abroad, Ms. Abbas also has brought successful enforcement actions in a number of foreign jurisdictions including China, Hong Kong, and Korea.
